Hotel review: Fraser Suites, Edinburgh

January 9, 2022hopebrotherton

In 2020, I took advantage of some cheap train tickets and headed to the Scottish capital for a long weekend with my boyfriend*. As this was our first full week off all year, we opted for a little but of opulence and booked ourselves into Fraser Suites, a four-star hotel situated in the heart of Edinburgh.

The Location

Fraser Suites is a boutique hotel located just off the Royal Mile. It’s just round the corner from several of Edinburgh’s numerous heritage sites including St Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh Castle, the Museum on the Mound, the Writer’s Room and so many more.

A five-minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley station, you’ll need to climb the New Steps to reach the hotel. Its accessibility from the station was ideal for us and our mighty rucksacks.

Fraser Suites’ sand-stoned facade is easily accessible on several other transport routes too.

Arriving at Fraser Suites

We arrived in Edinburgh one hour before check-in, so we thought we’d try our luck and attempt to stash our bags. As we entered the hotel, sings and posters clearly indicated any coronavirus restrictions. With our face masks on and hands cleaned, we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who checked us in early. Then, we made our way up to our room on the fifth floor.

Our room at Fraser Suites

When we planned our trip, we knew we wanted a room with a kitchenette ( in case we needed to cook in the evening). After we found Fraser Suites online, we plumped for a Classic Deluxe Room.

Our room included king size bed, comfy armchair, a desk, a large bathroom and of course the kitchen. It was filled with other little amenities too including L’Occtaine en Provence shampoo and shower gel, free Wi-Fi, a self-controlled heater, a safe and a TV.

The view from Fraser Suites

But the most stunning feature of our room was the view.

Fraser Suites is built on top of a hill. This means we were guaranteed stunning views from our window. As we sipped on our morning coffee, we soaked in Calton Hill on the skyline.

The facilities at Fraser Suites

We didn’t spend a lot of time in our hotel room but I wanted to share my thoughts on the facilities we did use.

On our final day, we used the hotel’s left luggage facility. I was relieved this service was on offer considering covid-19. When we collected our bags, I used the communal toilets just off from the reception area. They were also filled with more L’Occtaine en Provence products.

The verdict?

I really enjoyed my stay at Fraser Suites. It is definitely on my list of hotels for my next trip to Edinburgh. But until that day comes, I’ll keep the memories.
